Fletcher murder suspect appears in court
The man accused of kidnapping and killing Fletcher has been identified as 38-year-old Cleosa Henderson.
The Shelby County Public Defender’s Office, which was appointed to Henderson’s case this week, represented him in a kidnapping conviction more than 20 years ago, said Judge Luis J. Montesi Jr.
Montesi said Henderson’s former attorney would not be involved in his current case, but determined that there was “no basis or grounds to disqualify a public defender as an attorney.”
A judge said Henderson will be charged with murder against him and will remain in Shelby County Jail without bond.
Henderson allegedly passed by Fletcher in an SUV while Fletcher was jogging in a neighborhood near the University of Memphis. Officials say Henderson got out of the car and chased Fletcher until he pushed him into the passenger seat around 4 a.m. on Sept. 2.
At this time, it’s unclear what sentencing prosecutors plan to pursue if Henderson is found guilty.

Search started when fletcher had not returned from running
According to the affidavit, police later found surveillance video of the area that showed black GMC terrain passing by her. The SUV drove away about four minutes after the two entered the vehicle, according to the affidavit.
Police also analyzed sandals found near the victim’s phone at the abduction scene. According to the affidavit, the DNA found in the shoe matched Henderson’s DNA.
Henderson’s employer told investigators he drove a GMC Terrain and confirmed his phone number. Cell phone records showed Henderson was near the abduction site at the time of the abduction, according to the affidavit.

Two witnesses, including Henderson’s brother, told police they saw Henderson acting strangely after being abducted at his brother’s home in Memphis, according to an affidavit. The affidavit states that Henderson cleaned the interior of the GMC Terrain with floor cleaner and washed his clothes in the sink at his home.
