Plane went ‘down’ after pilot threatened to hit Walmart in Mississippi, sources say

A pilot flying a small plane threatened to “deliberately crash” a Walmart in Tupelo, Mississippi, after police evacuated the Walmart and nearby stores, Tupelo police said. release Saturday morning.

Police said they were notified around 5 a.m. CT when the pilot contacted 911 and issued a threat.

“At the moment, the situation is ongoing with TPD and all emergency services in our area,” police said. “For the maneuverability of that type of plane, the danger zone is much wider than the Tupelo.”

Citizens were asked to avoid the area until all was cleared. The situation is ongoing.

Tupelo Walmart stores are “currently closed and evacuated,” Walmart public relations director Charles Clawson told CNN.

“We are working closely with local investigators and referring questions to law enforcement,” he added.
